Sexual Abuse & Sexual Assault in Schools and Universities

Schools, colleges, and universities have the legal obligation to keep students, staff, faculty, and visitors safe on their campuses. If they fail to do so, or don’t offer proper support in instances of reported sexual abuses and/or sexual assaults, they have to be held accountable. If you or a loved one has been the victim of sexual abuse or sexual assault, you should Contact Us immediately. Remember: everything you share with your lawyer is confidential.

Sexual Abuse & Sexual Assault | University of Michigan Lawsuits

Dr. Robert E. Anderson was a physician looking after many athletes at the University of Michigan for over 30 years. Dr. Anderson died in 2008, but recent investigations show that he allegedly sexually abused several of his young male patients, some of which have come forward publicly. Adding to the traumatizing events that his victims had to experience, troubling information has surfaced about how the University of Michigan was aware of Dr. Anderson’s sexual misconduct and did not take proper action to prevent it.

In fact, Dr. Anderson was ousted from the University Health Service in 1979 for “fooling around with male students” but stayed on the staff and eventually became the university’s top physician for the football team. Investigations conducted by the police also show that officials at the University of Michigan were “aware of sexual abuse allegations against Anderson.”

Not only are schools expected to protect their students, staff and faculty from sexual predators, they are liable for failing this duty. If you or a loved one has been the victim of Dr. Robert E. Anderson or anyone at the University of Michigan, you should Contact Us immediately. You can fill out an online contact form or call 415-766-3544 for a FREE Consultation.

Sexual Abuse & Sexual Assault | The Ohio State University Lawsuits

Dr. Richard Strauss was a physician at The Ohio State University and, from 1978 to 1998 allegedly sexually abused hundreds of male students. Dr. Strauss committed suicide in 2005, but recent lawsuits have shown that the school’s staff and faculty was aware of the doctor’s sexual misconduct: “’When you’re doing weigh-ins, you’re too hands on, Doc,’ Hellickson told Strauss after wrestlers complained’.” (Russ Helickson was head coach at Ohio State University).

Just as perturbing, the State of Ohio Medical Board “ignored credible evidence in 1996 that an Ohio State University team doctor had been sexually abusing male students through genital exams for years and missed a chance to stop him, the governor and a review panel announced.

Not only are schools expected to protect their students, staff and faculty from sexual predators, they are liable for failing this duty. Sexual Abuse & Sexual Assault | Michigan State University Lawsuits

Dr. Larry Nassar’s name became widely known when, in 2017, sexual assault allegations against the Michigan State University physician came to light. In 2018, he was sentenced to up to 175 years in prison for his crimes – but, he is not the only sexual predator at the school. According to Michigan Radio/NPR, an RTI International survey conducted in 2019 showed that “More than 4,000 undergraduate women were sexually assaulted at Michigan State University during the 2018-2019 academic year.”

For a University with more than 15,000 students, plus staff and faculty, the high number of sexual assaults is a clear sign of negligence. Sexual abuse and sexual assault can only be prevented through strong and effective measures, which were clearly not present at this university.

Not only are schools expected to protect their students, staff and faculty from sexual predators, they are liable for failing this duty. If you or a loved one has been the victim of Dr. Larry Nassar or anyone else at Michigan State University, you should Contact Us immediately. FAQ

Yes. Please call us or use our contact form to request a Free Case Evaluation. We have a national team of attorneys and staff who look forward to speaking with you.

Typically, we represent clients on contingency fee agreements. If we take your case under a contingency fee arrangement, you won’t owe our firm any legal fees unless we are able to recover money for you.

Our contingency fee agreements are usually based on a percentage of the amount we recover for our clients. The contingency fee amount is determined by the type of case, our estimate of how long it will take to resolve your case, and our estimate of the litigation costs we will advance in your case. Each engagement agreement includes the details of the fee arrangement. Questions about our fee agreements are welcomed and encouraged.

In most litigation matters, it is extremely difficult – practically impossible – to predict how long it will take to resolve a particular case. Every case is different, and we will do our best to provide you with an estimate based on your case and our experience with similar cases. Moreover, we will do our best to keep you updated and manage expectations along the way.
