AFFF Firefighting Foam Lawsuits | What Happened?

Since the 50s, firefighting foam (also known as aqueous film-forming foam or AFFF) has been a staple at airports and on military bases around the country. Health organizations such as the EPA, CDC, and American Cancer Society (ACS) warned about a group of chemicals central to AFFF’s formula called PFAS. PFAS, or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, is a group of long-lasting chemicals that break down slowly over time.

By the mid 70s, major manufacturers of AFFF were made aware of the toxicity of PFAS chemicals in AFFF. By the early 90s, these companies were also becoming aware that PFAS may have adverse health effects on humans, including:

  •     Bladder Cancer
  •     Kidney Cancer
  •     Leukemia
  •     Liver Cancer
  •     Lymphoma
  •     Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
  •     Pancreatic Cancer
  •     Prostate Cancer
  •     Testicular Cancer
  •     Thyroid Cancer
  •     Ulcerative Colitis

And yet, the products are still on the market.

Are you a former firefighter, military member, airport worker, or similar professional who consistently worked with AFFF firefighting foam after 1960? If you were and developed a cancerous condition as a result, you might qualify to join litigation.

Peiffer Wolf’s Toxic Exposure Practice has represented thousands of individuals who have been the victims of RoundUp and Paraquat exposure, as well as Camp Lejeune water contamination and the East Palestine Train Derailment, among other cases.

FAQ

Yes. Please call us or use our contact form to request a Free Case Evaluation. We have a national team of attorneys and staff who look forward to speaking with you.

Typically, we represent clients on contingency fee agreements. If we take your case under a contingency fee arrangement, you won’t owe our firm any legal fees unless we are able to recover money for you.

Our contingency fee agreements are usually based on a percentage of the amount we recover for our clients. The contingency fee amount is determined by the type of case, our estimate of how long it will take to resolve your case, and our estimate of the litigation costs we will advance in your case. Each engagement agreement includes the details of the fee arrangement. Questions about our fee agreements are welcomed and encouraged.

In most litigation matters, it is extremely difficult – practically impossible – to predict how long it will take to resolve a particular case. Every case is different, and we will do our best to provide you with an estimate based on your case and our experience with similar cases. Moreover, we will do our best to keep you updated and manage expectations along the way.
