Nelnet Servicing said some personal information, like names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, and social security numbers, were taken in the attack.

According to the letter sent by Nelnet Servicing, the cyberattack occurred between June 2022 and July 22, 2022 and exposed:

  • Names
  • Social Security Number
  • Address
  • Email Address
  • Phone Number

What can you do now?

When Data Breaches occur, you must:

  • Change your passwords and security questions for the breached accounts. If you use the same or similar passwords for other accounts, change them as well;
  • If your Social Security number was stolen, you might consider a credit freeze and should have a credit monitoring service set up;
  • Demand compensation, since compromised personal information can lead to a number of problems, including identity theft.
