Matthew J. Whitley is an associate in the firm’s Cleveland office, where he advocates for plaintiffs in our Mass Torts and Civil Rights Practice Areas.
He began his legal career clerking for the Honorable David A. Tapp of the Kentucky Court of Justice, 28th Circuit and District. He then served as a prosecutor in Central Indiana, focusing on major felonies and crimes against women.
Matthew transitioned to civil practice at a boutique firm, representing individuals harmed by negligence, abuse, and wrongful death related to defective products, truck crashes, unsafe property conditions, and civil rights violations.
In addition to his civilian practice, Matthew serves as an assistant staff judge advocate in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps with the 416th Theater Engineer Command in Darien, IL. He advises senior leaders and conducts investigations and administrative separations.
He is a member of the American Association for Justice, Indiana Trial Lawyers Association, and Indianapolis Bar Association. He graduated from AAJ’s Leadership Academy and IndyBar’s Bar Leader Series, and speaks on trial advocacy, legal technology, and leadership.
Before entering the legal profession, Matthew taught middle school math in Indianapolis, IN.
